Why was it important to only use high-quality, ethnically sourced coffee?
Everything we do, everything we create, is a reflection of our brand, our values, and our commitment to doing things differently. Our dedication to quality and our focus on creating amazing experiences can be found in everything we do from the analytics services we deliver, to the children’s books we authored, to creating high-end coffee to share with our closest friends. That’s why when we decided to create a 33 Sticks branded coffee, we couldn’t do it any other way but the absolute best.
To create such a high quality coffee, we worked with the team at Carico Global to source only the finest quality coffee available in the world, but even that wasn’t good enough, we wanted to make sure that the coffee that we purchased also had an immensely positive impact on the communities where the coffee is grown. Carico Global was the only coffee importer we could find that aligned with our goals, our values, and our mission to have a positive impact on the world.
About Ugandan Bugisu Coffee
Bugisu is home to almost 20% of the world’s coffee farmers, Uganda’s coffee is prized for its taste and versatility which means it ends up as an ingredient for some of the world’s most known coffee blends. Only now is it being put to the forefront globally as single origin. Carico’s coffees are naturally farmed, inter-cropped and grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Grown under shade of indigenous trees, this allows the coffee fruit to grow and ripen slowly. The result is a harder bean which is then hand-picked when optimally ripe and then processed at a co-operative using a more delicate process known as wet-processing and are regularly turned as they dry in the sun.

Why are Peaberry coffee beans unique?
Much like you, and confirmed by the fact that you have found this page, the peaberry is an anomaly. Usually, coffee cherries contain two seeds, or beans, flat on one side and rounded on the other. In the case of peaberries, only one seed is fertilized. This results in a single round seed with a ridge down the middle.
In around 5% of cases, instead of the typical twin coffee beans, a coffee cherry produces only one round seed, which we call a peaberry.
Other than their rarity, the manual labor involved in locating and picking peaberries helps ensure that only the highest quality beans make it to the roaster.
The peaberry are known to produce a cup of coffee that has a rich chocolate flavor, and delicate hints of dark fruits such as blackcurrant and plum, with an incredibly sweet and smooth finish.
